ADSL Lines

When deciding to get DSL the starting point and also the most fundamental step is for you to decide what your “ADSL Access Speed” requirements are. Whether you are a casual web-surfer or hardcore-internet user, we’ve got the solution for you. Simplified ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), the “asymmetric” in ADSL refers to the fact that the speed at which data is downloaded, the data coming to the end-user’s computer from the Internet, is faster than the rate for uploaded data, the data travelling from the user’s computer to the Internet.

VDSL Lines

Not just your average ADSL line, VDSL stands for Very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line. This is a digital subscriber line (DSL) technology providing data transmission faster than ADSL over a single flat untwisted or twisted pair of copper wires (up to 52Mbit/s downstream and 16Mbit/s upstream). These rates mean that VDSL is capable of supporting applications such as high-definition television, as well as telephone services (voice over IP) and general Internet access, over a single connection. VDSL is deployed over existing wiring used for analog telephone service and lower-speed DSL connections. This service has only been made available to a small number of locations and is growing as more of the existing infrastructure is upgraded.

Please note:

  • A Telkom installation fee for a new line will apply.
  • To achieve best effort speeds with VDSL, the recommended router is a NETGEAR AC1900 WiFi Nighthawk VDSL D7000 Modem Router for the 20Mbps and 40Mbps line speeds. The ‘ADSL 2+’ router will function but not at these speeds.
